REVIEWS (Just a sampler)
From a doctor in California:
Your book is great! We all enjoyed each piece and
will feature it on our coffee table. Great
job.
From a Dartmouth classmate:
While it is too late to suggest its use as a
Christmas present, it's not too late to make a
strong recommendation to all classmates on behalf
of Joel Ash's recently published book of limerick
poetry, entitled "Potpourri of the Mind". It has
both humorous and serious verse and is marvelous
way to start the new year.
From the editor of the Class of 1956 Newsletter:
Joel Ash's book, "Potpourri of the Mind", is a
delight - - the whimsey and humor in Joel's limericks
come through often enough to keep you reading on. "To
See Or Not To See" (page 100), six stanzas about the
frustration of having to get (and find) eyeglasses,
was so true to life that I had to laugh. Joel's
poems are often timely - - he has one about Hale Bopp
and the Heaven's Gate sadness. Although he admits to
having a dark side in his mind, most of his poems are
light-hearted and readable. Many stimulate word
pictures that evoke memories of one's own
experiences. Buy this book - - I won't lend you MY
copy!
From the coordinator of the Mensa Limerick Special
Interest Group who is also editor of The Pentatette
newsletter:
This is truly a beautiful book - - one that no lover
of the pentatettial form can ignore, or for that
matter, live without. While you and I were groveling
with some prurient, unsavory rhymes, Joel Ash was
moved by a more lofty vision. The book consists of
numerous multi-verse poems. Not all are serious,
one selection relates how the devil's wife romances
him into getting an icebox so their son can have ice
cream on his birthday. A graduate of Dartmouth, Ash
brings Dartmouth and New England themes into a number
of his limericks. Most are reflective - - embracing
what it means to be human. You will want to bring
this book out again and again to share with your
family and friends. And, you will say, "I wish I had
written this book." I cannot say enough good things
about POTPOURRI. Mr. Ash knows all about meter and
rhyme - - and he has chosen to use that knowledge for
good.
From my wife:
It really turned out better than expected.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
There are a total of 109 pages in this beautifully
bound hardcover book. The jacket and internal
graphics have been created by an award winning
graphic designer. Everything is first class,
including heavy paper stock and gold leaf printing
on the spine.
POTPOURRI OF THE MIND is a limited edition with only
500 copies printed in total. At the present time there
are less than 100 copies still available.
A second book containing eighty poems (mostly new) was
published in June 1999. The graphic design of the
second book entitled A SOJOURN IN LIMERICK is such
that the two books constitute a set. A third and
final book for this set is envisioned for some time
in the future.
I like what I see! I want to place an order!
