PREFACE

Ah, the many moods of love that ebb and flow. One day romantic - - the next day itching for mad passionate coupling. On some occasions lighthearted and amused by the antics of love - - on others sentimental and yearning for deep and abiding attachment. My many moods of love and desire are reflected in my poetry, and there are samples of widely varying aspect contained in this carefully selected collection of Poetic Limericks.

Adonis and Venus

SPECIAL NOTE: If you plan to read the whole book, it is probably a good idea to print out the table of contents as a reference. FANTASY ISLAND

You pull your boat up to the shore,
Then quickly head off to explore;
Your mind is afire,
With hope and desire,
Love fantasies now lie in store.

Through the trees you can see a small glade,
Swirling pool where a maid starts to wade;
Water falling on boulders,
Sun gleaming on shoulders,
Sweet beauty amidst the cascade.

She turns and her arms open wide,
All clothing and cares cast aside;
Delighted, you sought her,
A rush in the water,
Embrace with the urge at floodtide.

A kiss from the depths of a dream,
Emotions beyond all extreme;
Lips loving caress,
Ardent throes of excess,
With enchanted affections supreme.

Fond hours of pleasure ensue,
With nothing the two do not do;
Their passion run wild,
All the senses beguiled,
Tender ecstasy never quite through.

The water and love timeless spilling,
Endless moments the partners are willing;
Endearments and zeal,
The imagined seems real,
With seduction of thought so fulfilling.

Picture #1: "Lovers and Idol" by Erte

When I first started thinking about writing ASPECTS OF LOVE AND DESIRE, I planned to use a picture of Rodin's "The Kiss" as a lead in to my poem entitled "Four Kisses". However, although that sculpture is quite beautiful, it has been used so often that it has become somewhat trite. To find something a bit fresher, I searched through my books of art and found the above image. "Lovers and Idol" by Erte was found in a book entitled "ERTE - - The Last Works". This artist is one of my favorites and this particular image is a wonderful example of his magnificent work.

FOUR KISSES

Strong attraction of mister and miss,
When you long for an upcoming kiss;
The wait fuels desire,
Thoughts burning with fire,
The moment at hand for sweet bliss.

Lips brush in a tender caress,
Yearning mouths come together and press;
Towards love two inclined,
Pair of hearts now entwined,
This first kiss an exquisite success.

Warm emotions that two can't ignore,
Loving partners now seek an encore;
Exploration endearing,
With doubt disappearing,
Two kisses and fond hope for more.

Whispered words that excite and delight,
Soulful glances exchanged in the night;
Ardent tasting divine,
Drinking love in like wine,
Three kisses high passion ignite.

In the throes of a loving embrace,
Expression of joy face to face;
The height of romance,
Which forever enchants,
Four kisses they long to retrace.

Picture #2: Beach Lovers

"From Here to Eternity" has forever implanted in many minds an erotic vision of lovers embracing on a wave swept beach. There is something particularly exciting about making love in or near water. The above image of two such lovers provides a perfect setting for the poem which follows entitled "Immersed". If I am successful in my poetic imagery, the lines from this poem will immediately leap to mind when one thinks of "skinny dipping" in the future.

IMMERSED

A hot August night made for love,
Bright moon and the stars up above;
Seawater waits calm,
Neither lover a qualm,
Lovely moments that poets write of.

Clothing pile on the ground will expand,
Wardrobes gently dropped to the sand;
All underthings shed,
Loving thoughts left unsaid,
Silent couple that walks hand in hand.

The ocean is cool, not quite cold,
Warm couple so close and so bold;
With skin against skin,
Love's caresses begin,
Their excitement just barely controlled.

Floating out on the smooth buoyant sea,
Two lovers each thrilled, feeling free;
Wet lips lightly touch,
Taste of salt, but not much,
Tongue endearments for both he and she.

The touching, ambrosia of feel,
Which brings forth a sweet playful squeal;
Strong desire for more,
They must head to the shore,
With impatience they cannot conceal.

Bare feet on wet sand titillates,
Wondrous tingles each mind contemplates;
Not a moment to waste,
The two lovers make haste,
Towards the blanket spread out which awaits.
