"Poetry of the Heart"

On March 1, 2000 I published an online version of my first hardcover book entitled POTPOURRI OF THE MIND. The online edition is almost an exact replica of the written version. The only real difference is the correction of some minor typos and a few minor wording improvements. That is one advantage of an online book, fixes can be made with very little difficulty. Another advantage is the much lower cost basis. I will come back to that point further on, but first I would like to say a few words about "Poetry of the Heart".

"Poetry of the Heart" in Poetic limerick form was one of my earliest poetry efforts, and it has the distinction of being the first poem in my very first hardcover book. In February of 2000, I revisited the poem and rewrote it in a new form of free verse that I call Echo Verse. After writing 440 Poetic Limericks, I decided that it might be fun to try something new. After completing 12 poems using the Echo Verse form I decided to concentrate once again on writing Poetic Limericks exclusively. I am presenting here this one example of my Echo Verse work, and after a few additional comments, you will have the opportunity to see the original poem if you enter the gateway to POTPOURRI OF THE MIND online.

POETRY OF THE HEART - - in Echo Verse

My poetry springs forth from a very special place in my heart.
New thoughts and ideas welling up from deep inside.
New words seeking to bask in daylight.
Formed from the essence of feelings swirling in my bloodstream.
My poetry of the heart released from pent up emotion.

New ways to capture the beauty all around us.
Visions of glorious sunshine.
Visions of dark outlines against moonlight.
Remembrances of a fearsome thunderstorm.
New lines and stanzas flowing forth from my imagination.

Visions of childhood memories etched on stone walls within my mind.
Beautiful concepts frozen in time.
Beautiful thoughts that will live forever.
Meaningful fantasies striving for lasting legacy.
Visions of hopes and fears or just figments of invention.

Beautiful moments translated into poetic expression.
The pure joy of creative endeavor.
The pure joy of heartfelt revelation.
Self-satisfaction in the perfect juxtaposition of my very own words.
Beautiful parts of the world illuminated by my own unique muse.

The pure joy of one magic phrase,
Delight in the impact of one golden line.
Delight in evoking a yearned for response.
The willingness to uncover my heart in order to achieve this.
The pure joy of overcoming aspects of reluctance.

Delight in letting heart bound ideas burst free of confinement.
The warm afterglow of release.
The warm afterglow of poetic origination.
The beating of one's heart accompanying every revisitation.
Delight in each recitation.

The warm afterglow of birthing poetry of the heart.
